Maíra, A Última Floresta e A Febre: reflexões sobre a questão indígena

Abstract

By comparing the novel Maíra by Darcy Ribeiro, and the films The Last Forest and The Fever, based on the Amerindian perspectivism exposed by Viveiros de Castro and the book The Falling Sky: Words of a Yanomami Shaman, by Davi Kopenawa and Bruce Albert, the article investigates revealing recurrences of indigenous and non-indigenous perception staged in the works. Though separated by more than five decades, the three works have elements in common that indicate a historical change in the understanding of the indigenous issue in Brazil. As they are investigated also from the perspective of comparative cinema studies, the works stage an attempt to bring different cultures together, without, however, dissimulating the fascination and the disagreements.
