Many women suffer gender-based political violence because they dare to exercise political mandates and challenge the patriarchal culture of Brazilian politics. If violence against women is still a naturalized phenomenon, when it comes to gender-based political violence, silencing and naturalization are even greater. This article will explore three categories: gender, “women politicions” and gender-based political violence, problematizing the last through the testimonies of women councilors from two municipalities in northern Santa Catarina.
