Discursive strategies in response to Erika Hilton's digital activism regarding same-sex marriage

Abstract

Digital activism, particularly on Twitter (X), expands political debates and potentially shapes public opinion. This study explored the discursive strategies present in 2,380 tweets related to Erika Hilton's 2023 activism in support of same-sex unions. Four strategies emerged: the idealization of Erika; opposition to the bill; rejection of same-sex unions accompanied by hostility toward the LGBTQIA+ community; and prejudiced disqualification of Erika. The analysis reflected on how Erika's mobilization on Twitter contributed to the construction of meanings around the topic, emphasizing the discursive tensions surrounding same-sex unions.

    Possui Graduação em Psicologia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1995), Aprimoramento em Promoção de Saúde na Comunidade pela Universidade de São Paulo (1997), Mestrado e Doutorado em Psicologia pela Universidade de São Paulo (2000, 2004), e pós-doutorado pela University of New Hampshire (EUA) (2011-2012). Atualmente é Professor Titular da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. Foi Presidente da Associação Brasileira de Psicologia Social (2016/2017). É Membro do Corpo Editorial e Revisor de vários periódicos de Psicologia. Membro do Taos Institute (USA). Integrante do GT Cotidiano e Praticas Sociais da ANPEPP. Lider do Grupo de Pesquisa Psicologia, Saúde e Construcionismo Social. Desenvolve ações de cooperação com a University of New Hampshire (EUA) e NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences (Holanda).

    Maria Fernanda Costa Pereira é Mestre em Psicologia pela Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU), onde desenvolveu pesquisa sobre gênero e sexualidade. Psicóloga clínica, com formação em Gestalt-Terapia, atua em atendimentos a mulheres e pessoas LGBTQIA+.
