The objective of this article was to make a brief reflection and theorization of the “Treaty on Environmental Education”. In the first part, the historical-cultural context of the date of its publication in Rio-92 was rescued. Afterwards, the ramifications of the Treaty in society were analyzed, demonstrating as results the hundreds of public policies and research and training programs in the field of research. In the third part, the theoretical concepts related to the process of construction of this document were analyzed. And at the end of it, it is presented how this “Treaty” still has a fundamental role in societies.
