From the Street to the Museum: Emotions in the Red Shoes Installation by Elina Chauvet

One of the most significant feminist artistic actions in recent years is the artwork Zapatos Rojos [Red Shoes]. This participatory installation was conceptualized by artist Elina Chauvet and involved placing red-painted shoes in the streets and various public spaces to denounce femicides. The artwork
has been reactivated in multiple contexts and has been transgressive, as it has managed to give a space to affection and subjectivity. Over time, the
piece has been transformed and re-signified by museums, posing a challenge on how to preserve the transgressive nature of the work in an exhibition space. Therefore, through the study of several exhibitions, this text will analyze some curatorial strategies that have been used to maintain the subversive
power of the work.
