Abstract

The present work aims at understanding the complexity between the relations between human and nonhuman animals and the explicit and implicit meanings in these relations, seeking to glimpse how these relations objectify nonhuman animals and mean humans in their most dense network of subjugations. These relationships take place in the social field and are reflected in the role occupied by these nonhuman individuals in the legal order and in their non-attainment of rights. In order to do so, the main currents linked to animal rights are listed, with the purpose of identifying the relationships between human and non-human animals in Western societies, detailing the most relevant aspects for an expanded understanding of bioethics. To carry out the present research, we seek to make a theoretical analysis, based on a bibliographical survey about the subject, reflecting critically on the information collected.
