Abstract

No apagar das luzes do século XVIII, o solipsismo - esteio moral da Razão Iluminista e fonte inspiradora da liberdade que movia o humanismo burguês - cede sob o impacto do Terror que sucede a vitoriosa Revolução Francesa. E para o horror dos filósofos humanistas, nenhum ideal Iluminista se mostraria suficiente para conter os excessos cometidos em nome da liberdade.
