Gay Refereeing:
Abstract
Football is the most practiced sport in the world, through it, different debates and discussions about the possibility of diverse individualities being present in harmony in a sport that is mostly masculine and heterosexual. However, there is a growing number of referees who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, whether they are men or women. Therefore, this essay sought to conceptualize gender and sexuality, discuss and provoke the relationship between gender and sexuality in the work performed by football referees, followed by the need for effective academic preparation for physical education and sports teachers in the training of individuals who will in the future be present in football stadiums in the most diverse functions and attributions, and who can respect the diversity found in that place. The provocations sought to understand the development of homosexuals in society, their association with high-performance sports and how referees need to create safe spaces for the inclusion of these people who wish to get involved with football in this way. It can be concluded that the importance of disseminating knowledge and encouraging social equity from professional preparation courses is necessary, since, from the degrees in physical education, teachers will be able to understand and promote the formation of individuals who respect the diversity and individualities present in society and in formal sports.
