This article presents a new translation of one of the cantos from Ayvu Rapyta, the great cosmogonic poem of the Guarani Mbya. The translation, made directly from the original, is accompanied by philological notes that address semantic, morphosyntactic, and aesthetic issues, proposing a “new philology” for the study of indigenous verbal arts texts in Brazil.
