Grammaticalization of coordinative conjunctions: the history of a conclusive clause

Abstract

In this paper, I analyze some aspects related to the grammaticalization of the coordinating conjunctions. Assuming that cognitive and pragmatic factors interact to create new grammatical items and adopting a coordination approach supported by functional-semantic criteria, I reconstruct the evolutionary-historical course of the Portuguese conclusive conjunction logo from Portuguese historical sources.

    Doutora em Lingüística pelo Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem (IEL/UNICAMP), é professora do Departamento de Estudos Lingüísticos e Literários da UNESP de São José do Rio Preto.
