Abstract

This paper aims to reflect on two possible senses of the concept of “language of painting”, a keynotion for the critical discourse on the visual arts in the 20th century. The contrast between two visions of language: the structuralist and the Wittegensteinian offers an opportunity to ask about the possible operational character of the one and/or the other inside the domain of the reflection on painting.

Doutoranda do Programa de História Social da Cultura da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) e mestre em Filologia Francesa pela Universidade Jagellonica (Cracóvia, Polônia), com uma dissertação sobre o silêncio na poesia simbolista de Oskar V. de L. Milosz. Desenvolve atualmente pesquisa sobre o silêncio na pintura de P. Cézanne e na poesia de S. Mallarmé.
