This article investigates the inclusion of transgender students in Basic Education schools in Lages, Santa Catarina. Using a qualitative and post-structuralist approach, the study involved interviews with four teachers. The findings reveal that despite some progress, transgender students still face challenges such as discrimination, disrespect from some teachers or staff, and a lack of emotional support. These obstacles directly impact their academic performance. The study emphasizes the urgent need for schools to establish policies and practices that are inclusive and respectful of gender diversity, thereby creating a safer and more welcoming educational environment for all.
