CULTURA ACADÊMICA E MICROPOLÍTICAS DA DISCRIMINAÇÃO VIVENCIADAS POR MULHERES EM CARREIRAS CIENTÍFICAS
Abstract
Despite a surge in women attending universities since the 1990s, the number of female scientist’s plateaus as careers progress. This study explores the persistent cultural and institutional barriers that hinder gender equality in science, even in the absence of legal restrictions. By analyzing interviews with researchers at a major federal university in southeastern Brazil, we reveal the prevalence of invisible gender barriers that shape work dynamics and interpersonal relationships. These barriers manifest in both horizontal segregation (concentrating women in specific fields) and vertical segregation (limiting women's access to leadership positions).
