The aim of this article is to present epistemological and methodological reflections arising from research experiences whose main characteristic is their proximity to the reality of grassroots struggles and the deliberate intention of making research a space for social transformation. This is a theoretical effort that aligns findings made throughout the socio-legal research processes carried out by the authors, but especially put into dialog, and in common, from the encounter provided by the academic guidance of Professor Ana Maria Motta Ribeiro, in the course of producing doctoral theses, and also in the context of the Observatório Fundiário Fluminense. Based on the insufficiency of the scientific paradigms of bourgeois modernity, in the face of the challenges of producing knowledge that dialogues with the demands of the working classes and of societies that are increasingly unequal and violent towards difference, it presents reflections on participant research methodologies, the challenges of interdisciplinary thinking and, finally, a systematization of the contemporary strands of sociological thinking, based on their epistemic vectors, inspired by the proposal formulated by Prof. Ana Maria Motta Ribeiro.
