the discursive revolt present in Hip-Hop and the political imagination as a beacon

Abstract

This paper proposes an analysis of the emerging and insurgent statements of the Hip-Hop movement in the city of Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, as a counterpoint to the neoliberal ideals of social compartmentalization and individualization of once collective experiences. Taking as a reference the production of a documentary on the subject, made during the same period in which this research was carried out, the focus of the analysis is on the MCs' statements in their interviews, with the aim of understanding the practice of political imagination in structuring discourses of resistance to neoliberal norms of life. The analysis in question was carried out in parallel with monitoring the production of the documentary and transcribing the interviews. The theoretical framework is anchored in Foucauldian theory, while the method used is Discourse Analysis. The linguistic materiality of the statements, in relation to marginalization and active resistance to current social and discursive norms, constitutes the main object of analysis. From this, it emerged that the Political Imagination is effectively present in the discourses analyzed, functioning not only as a way of imagining a more equitable world, but also as a call to action; acting as a beacon that guides marginalized subjects to resistance, using music and culture as tools for subversion and social transformation. The Political Imagination expressed in the speeches of the people interviewed is not just seen as a utopian ideal, but as a concrete reality, shaped by the daily actions of the artists and activists who make up the movement in Dourados.
